Blockbuster Adding Games to Web Rentals
As renting a movie becomes easier for the consumer, many of the old brick-and-mortar companies have come face to face with the theory of Darwinism in business. Either you adapt a new business model to meet the needs of modern consumers or you go out of business. Blockbuster has been taking serious steps towards adaptation by not only offering movie titles for rent on their website much in the way that Netflix made renting DVDs a delivery service rather than a trip to a store, but they have recently added the convenience of gaming rentals to the site’s online abilities.
This means your local gamer will be taking even less trips out of his or her cave to get their hands on their next gaming experience. The pilot will be offered to a handful of subscribers at first then more to follow as the company determines how feasible the program may actually be. It could be noted here that though this would work wonders for the world of game rentals, a refined service such as this might be better suited in the digital download world. After all, if you can digitally rent a movie through iTunes, wouldn’t it be grand if some day you could rent the latest version of Call of Duty in much the same way?
One can dream.
